HDI Global SE

  • About the company

HDI Global SE is one of the leading insurers for companies in the trade, production and service sectors. Together with the other "HDI" companies, HDI Global SE is part of the TALANX Group, which operates successfully as a multi-brand provider in the property/casualty and life primary insurance, property and personal reinsurance (Hannover Re) and financial services segments. HDI develops customised insurance concepts that are precisely tailored to the operational risks of companies of all types and sizes. Comprehensive risk management to avoid losses and damage is just as much a part of the company's reliable service as professional and timely claims management. The company, headquartered in Germany, generates more than half of its premium volume abroad. Europe is the core market, where HDI is represented in 39 countries and employs around 5,000 people.

  • Project: Digital in-house magazine of HDI Global, German branch, on the vision "Partner in Transformation"

Insurance services can have indirect ecological, economic and social impacts on sustainable development. The creation of a modern, digital in-house magazine on the topic of sustainability is intended to provide comprehensive information and motivation to the more than 1,500 employees of the German branch each year. In addition to informative content on the current sustainability strategy of HDI, on legal principles and future changes in (inter)national sustainability legislation, as well as on technical developments in the field of renewable energies, the magazine is intended to provide employees with concise retrospective information on insurance innovations in 2024 and on interesting projects in the field of ESG and sustainability. An insurance outlook for 2025 rounds off the magazine's extensive content.

Hacon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH

  • About the company

How can we make tomorrow's mobility more sustainable, more comfortable and more accessible to everyone? This question drives the approximately 500 employees at Hacon every day. For more than 35 years, we have been developing software that helps transport companies optimise processes and make travelling as easy as possible for passengers. To this end, we are constantly developing our portfolio: mobility as a service, travel information and ticketing, operator business products or timetable design and scheduling – our products cover all aspects of intelligent transport systems. We link public and private transport and provide travellers with over 100 million door-to-door route calculations every day. In addition to regional platforms, we also develop nationwide solutions, for example for the Netherlands and Spain. Hacon has been part of Siemens Mobility since 2017. The headquarters are in Hanover.

  • Project: Using AI in software development for digital mobility

How can AI support the development process of a software company? This project offers the opportunity to analyse how AI tools can be used in software development – from generating simple routines to supporting test cases and quality assurance. In addition to technical aspects, legal and formal hurdles as well as the protection of intellectual property also play an important role. The tasks include, among other things, conducting a market analysis, developing an evaluation matrix for assessing potential AI solutions, and the documentation of best practices. In addition, practical use cases are to be demonstrated and a concept developed for rolling out AI tools in larger teams. The limitations of current AI technology and possible further development options will also be examined. At the end of the project, the results will be presented in a management summary and recommendations for the use of AI in the software development process will be derived.

Max Bögl Bauservice GmbH & Co. KG

  • About the company

With around 6,500 employees at 40 locations worldwide and an annual turnover of over 3 billion euros, Max Bögl is one of the largest construction companies in the German construction industry.

With forward-looking in-house developments on topics of our time, such as renewable energies, urbanisation, mobility and infrastructure, the group is already realising solutions for the megatrends of our globalised world.

Based on its many years of experience and expertise in high-precision precast concrete construction, Max Bögl is also positioning itself as an important driving force in the development of innovative products, technologies and construction methods.

The broad range of services and the high level of vertical integration, with our own steel construction, our own prefabricated component plants, the most modern fleet of vehicles and equipment, as well as our own raw materials and building materials, guarantee the highest quality. The use of BIM, lean management/production and standardised project management ensures adherence to deadlines and cost-effectiveness from the initial concept idea to the finished construction product.

  • Project: Development of a concept for the training of reinforced concrete constructors

Some professions in the construction sector, especially in the skilled trades, are sometimes misinterpreted when it comes to making career appointments. For example, the apprenticeship as a reinforced concrete builder no longer meets the current requirements of a precast plant. His tasks have changed dramatically. This is due to the rapidly advancing industrialisation and standardisation of production. A person who informs himself about professions and training opportunities will not find an adequate description for the work in a precast plant. The training to become a reinforced concrete builder includes many modules that convey useful knowledge, but are too extensive and not applicable to reinforced concrete builders in a precast plant. It is therefore necessary to create a tailor-made training portfolio for the reinforced concrete builder – or to be creative and break completely new ground.

After analysing the current requirements, a corresponding concept for internal training content should be created. This concept can then be summarised in a flyer or brochure and used to advertise the profession. However, it is also possible that completely new insights will emerge, which will then require a more radical rethink.

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH

  • About the company

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH has been developing, producing and selling laser systems and automation systems for medicine and industry for over 30 years. • Project: Creation of a training concept for users of collaborative robots

Collaborative robots, so-called cobots, are increasingly being used to relieve employees of repetitive tasks. They are intuitive to use thanks to their "teach" functionality and simple programming, and after a short briefing, they can also be programmed and set up by semi-skilled employees without the appropriate training.

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH maintains its own "Robotics" division. Among other things, it manufactures so-called training stations that can be used to train inexperienced cobot users. Typically, these are sold to educational institutions and schools, which then provide instruction and training to the employees of various user companies. The corresponding training concepts and materials are now to be created for the latest training station with a Cobot CR5. The concept should take into account two different work blocks: graphics-based programming and programming in the LUA language. The aim is to create teaching materials that are suitable for business and industry and can be used for professional knowledge transfer in the future.

We have an open and appreciative corporate culture with regard to ALL facets of diversity.

  • Project: Creation of a training and community concept for citizen development

In order to successfully master the energy transition, the energy sector must take innovative paths, but also make existing processes more efficient. To achieve this, it is necessary to automate and digitalise them as far as possible.

In order for this to succeed optimally, tools must be used that enable operational specialists to create their own solutions such as apps, including subsequent automation of the process. These tools are known as citizen development tools or no-code/low-code solutions.

A training concept is to be developed for this in the project, which will ensure that digital skills for the tools used in the company are developed in a decentralised manner in the specialist departments. In a second step, a concept for a Citizen Development Community is also to be created in order to bring the decentralised shapers of the energy transition into dialogue with each other so that they can learn from each other and actively share solutions, exchange experiences and knowledge, jointly identify questions and problems and thus continuously develop further.

Thanks to the no-code programming interface and integrated development environment (voraus.pioneer), manufacturers, integrators and end users can quickly and cost-effectively realise individual solutions for all robots and applications. The robotics ecosystem – simple, fast and highly customisable.

  • Project: Making a collaborative robot operable via ChatGPT

Although artificial intelligence (AI) already offers many possibilities and the publication of ChatGPT has had a broad impact, AI has had little influence on industrial automation to date. However, AI offers many approaches to make even challenging applications easy to programme. In this project work, a collaborative industrial robot is therefore to be made operable via ChatGPT. A camera is to capture the environment and recognise the objects to be gripped. The user should be able to select an object via text input and communicate an interaction to the robot. The robot then grasps the object and places it in the position selected by the user. From an economic point of view, the aim is to analyse the resulting applications in the industrial sector and what a market launch might look like.

ZF

  • About the company

ZF is a globally active technology group headquartered in Friedrichshafen that develops and supplies systems for the mobility of passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology. With more than 3,000 employees, the ZF site in Hanover (formerly WABCO) is the leading supplier of brake control systems and other technologies for improving the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles. The location covers the entire product life cycle from development and testing (with its own test track near Hanover) to distribution and after-sales service. As one of ZF CVS's largest product development locations, Hanover is home to many product and technology innovations.

  • Project: Design and monetisation of steering feel and steering functions based on the possibilities of steer-by-wire technology for heavy commercial vehicles

In addition to classic (electro-)hydraulic or electromechanically operated steering systems with a fixed mechanical connection from the steering wheel to the steering actuator on the wheel, ZF has also successfully developed steer-by-wire systems for the passenger car market to market maturity. A technology transfer to the market for heavy commercial vehicles seems conceivable. Steer-by-wire systems are characterised by the sole electrical signal transmission of the desired steering movement from the steering wheel to the wheel actuators. This enables, among other things, the freely selectable adjustment and design of the resulting steering feel via a servomotor in the steering wheel. In the project, these degrees of freedom are to be investigated to determine which different steering feel and steering functions are conceivable and to what extent and in which driving situations and manoeuvres these bring benefits to the customer/driver. Based on this, it will be investigated how these benefits can be mapped in monetisation strategies, i.e. to what extent and through which channels the customer (fleet) or even the driver directly (user) is willing to pay for these benefits.

Winter semester 2023/24

M&M derives strategies from its customers' requirements and develops customised software solutions for the digital world. The broad range of services includes full services or software sub-components and is characterised by iterative and agile approaches. M&M Software and its global teams work closely with partners from research, science and business. The company is based in Hanover Garbsen.

  • Project: Software development and digitisation strategies in manufacturing companies

In software development, we have been experiencing for many years that projects are becoming increasingly complex and many customers are no longer able to fully describe the actual overall solution. As a result, agile processes have become established that meet these challenges and gradually approach an optimal solution. The central question of the project is whether the methodological framework of software development can also be used to create digitalisation strategies in manufacturing companies. To this end, it is necessary to describe the current challenges that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) actually face. The aim is to develop concepts that support a practical digitalisation strategy and enable companies to develop strategies independently as well as regularly supplement or adapt them.

VHV Gruppe

  • About the company

The VHV Group, based in Hanover-List, is an established group of insurance and pension specialists. With the brands "VHV Versicherungen" and "Hannoversche", we are a competent and future-orientated partner for policyholders and brokers. Our business segments are property and casualty insurance as well as life insurance. As Germany's leading construction insurer, we count 70,000 companies from this sector alone among our customers, and in commercial motor insurance we have once again been voted Broker Favourite several times this year. For our success, we rely on the strengths of our approximately 4,000 employees, modern structures, efficient cost management and customer-orientated products. In addition, we have been driving forward the internationalisation of the VHV Group for several years and are already represented in four other countries.

  • Project: Development of an automated market radar

The market for commercial motor insurance is moving faster than ever before – influenced by external factors such as pandemics and inflation as well as ever faster changing offers and prices from competitors. It is therefore essential for an insurer to keep a close eye on the pulse of the market and always be informed about all economic trends, customer needs and market movements. The aim of the project is to develop an automated market radar for VHV's commercial motor insurance. The first step is to analyse from an economic perspective which external key information is decisive for VHV's success in commercial motor insurance. Based on this information, a web crawler is to be developed in the second phase, which regularly searches the Internet and specific websites for relevant news and files it in an organised manner. The tool will enable analysts in product management and pricing at VHV to make faster and smarter decisions.

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH

  • About the company

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH has been developing, producing and selling laser systems and automation systems for medicine and industry for over 30 years. With a value-added chain entirely in Germany and production based near Hanover and in Chemnitz, the "Made in Germany" product is exported to over 20 countries around the world. With its own branches in Shanghai, Tokyo, Taipei and Seoul as well as many co-operating service partners, Vision Lasertechnik GmbH offers worldwide service. In Hanover, Vision Lasertechnik GmbH has its headquarters in Barsinghausen.

  • Project: System concept for combining laser welding systems and modern robotics

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH has a "robotics" division in addition to its laser welding/laser marking systems. The aim of the planned project is to establish a connection between laser welding systems and modern robotics in a new system concept. The planned project focuses on manual workstations, which are mainly used for manual welding processes, such as repairs, material joining or removal processes. In addition to the technical feasibility analysis, the relevance of the automation of previously manual processes in relation to the shortage of skilled labour, demographic changes and competitiveness should be discussed. From a business perspective, the marketability of such a product should also be analysed as part of an initial market analysis.
