A learning module refers to the grouping of thematically defined content elements structured by navigation, similar to an analogue lecture or exercise script. The content is made available to students as written text, pictures, videos or animations. Independent learning tests and other kinds of task can be integrated into the module. They are easy to combine with face-to-face teaching or to use for revision, e.g. for examination preparation, and offer complementary additional content for independent study. It is particularly beneficial for students if they can make their own decisions regarding the time, place and speed of their study.
Using Learning Modules in ILIAS
At the Leibniz University, you can set up learning modules in the learning management system, ILIAS using the Stud.IP interface or directly on the ILIAS platform. As part of the learning management system, the learning modules can be used together with other ILIAS functions and tools.
- Using the function "Learning Progress", it is possible to monitor whether a student has worked through a particular learning module.
- ILIAS has a LaTeX-enabled editor.
- Access to the learning module or to individual chapters can be linked to certain conditions, such as the passing of a test.
- With "Learning Objective Oriented Courses" in ILIAS, select content linked to learning objectives – controlled by tests – can be provided automatically.
- Terms used in the learning modules can be linked directly to the definitions of terms in the ILIAS glossaries.
The ZQS/elsa can provide advice and support in the creation of learning modules.
