Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

LUH Student Survey

  • Why a LUH student survey?

There are approx. 30,000 students enrolled at Leibniz University Hannover. Regularly gathering the opinions of the students and providing them with an instrument to indicate necessary courses of action and problems, as well as to evaluate the services provided by LUH, is essential to systematic and continuous quality development in study and teaching.

The results are provided in the form of reports, articles or lectures provided to the management, faculties and central facilities and intensively discussed in various committees. On the basis of the results, what is currently offered can be checked, barriers to study identified, required actions recognised and measures derived. They are excellently suited to qualitatively extending or – with regard to the results – adjusting the University’s diverse offer.

Subjects of the LUH student survey

The questionnaires of the LUH Student Survey consist of a standard core questionnaire (which stays to a very large extent identical over the years) as well as varying subjects.

The following subjects are current or were former part of the survey:

    • Motives for study for new students
    • Experiences in the induction phase
    • Evaluation of student conditions: structure of study, research/practical orientation, study organisation, support/advice from lecturers, equipment, exam organisation
    • Evaluation and description of study requirements
    • Difficulties in study
    • Competency requirements
    • Plans after Bachelor’s programme, Bachelor/Master transition
    • Study-related periods abroad, obstacles to foreign study
    • Knowledge of, use and evaluation of advice and services provided by LUH
    • Tendency to drop out or change the course of study
    • Information about the personal living situation
  • Why should I take part in the survey?

There are many good reasons for you to take part in the LUH student survey: alongside the opportunity to reflect on your own study experiences, you will be making an important contribution

    • to improving learning and study conditions,
    • to developing the range of advice and services offered by the University,
    • to reflecting on and changing study requirements,
    • to understanding the heterogeneous nature of study progress.

You and the students of future years, as well as Leibniz University Hannover, will benefit from this!

In addition, only participants have the opportunity to win attractive prizes.

  • What happens to the results of the study?

The data becomes part of the quality development for study and teaching at Leibniz University Hannover. For these purposes, the results, in the form of reports, articles or lectures, are provided to the management, faculties and central facilities and intensively discussed in various committees. On the basis of the results, what is currently offered can be monitored, barriers to study identified, required actions recognised and measures derived. They are excellently suited to qualitatively extending or adjusting the University’s diverse offer.

  • Can I see the results of the study?

You can find the university-wide results of the LUH student survey here.

If you are interested in differentiated results, please get in touch with the staff member responsible for the student survey:

    Dr. Maren Kandulla
    Tel. +49 511 762 14191
    email: kandulla@zqs.uni-hannover.de.

  • Who can take part in the survey?

All students who have received an invitation email from Leibniz University Hannover and a link to the survey can take part. Every two years, in May, these emails are sent to all students at Leibniz University. Every student is thus allowed to take part once in two years. Only a few study programmes are excluded from the survey (e. g. distance learning courses, certification courses or partly expiring courses).

  • I am not currently studying at LUH. Should I take part nevertheless?

Are you doing an internship, spending a study-related period abroad, on parental leave, writing a dissertation, gainfully employed, thinking of dropping out or something else?

Then yes, definitely! Leibniz University Hannover does not just want the responses of students that are currently in courses but also those of students in other phases of study or life. Only a realistic picture of the diversity of students will help to improve study conditions and the quality of Leibniz University Hannover’s provisions sustainably and for all! Questions that cannot be currently answered can be skipped, shortening the questionnaire considerably.

  • How can I take part in the survey?

The survey takes place online only. Please simply follow the link that was sent to you in the email.

  • How is my anonymity ensured?

The answers entered in the questionnaire are never linked to personal data such as matriculation (registration) numbers, names or email addresses. All results are only ever published in aggregated form and thus do not allow individuals to be identified. Results with a number of cases < 5 are not published.

  • Can I be identified through combinations of characteristics, e.g., study programme and gender?

The results are only ever shown in aggregated form and care is always taken to ensure that individuals cannot be identified. If, for example, only 4 students in a particular study programme give results, the results for this programme will never be published broken down by gender.

  • What happens to my answers/my data?

Your answers are stored during the survey phase (exclusively) on Leibniz University Hannover servers. The survey data is always sent over encrypted connections. Your matriculation (registration) number, your name, your title and your email address are not included in this data.

Your name and your email address are only gathered separately from the survey in the course of the prize raffle and are deleted again within four weeks after the raffle. Address data is never saved in the same file as survey data and is never linked to it. In this way, the survey remains completely anonymous.
All data is always sent over encrypted connections.

The survey data is saved after the end of the field phase in a separate, closed folder at the ZQS/quality assurance. The survey data is anonymous and is not deleted. It is only evaluated taking into account the applicable data protection regulations and only within LUH. The survey data is only evaluated by the ZQS/Quality Assurance with reference to groups, so that identifying an individual is impossible. By special request, the academic deans of the faculties can receive the survey data from the students of their faculty. This contains the survey data in anonymised form so that identifying an individual is impossible.

  • How secure is the program with which the online survey is carried out?

The online survey is carried out using EvaSys, Leibniz University Hannover’s teaching evaluation system. All data entered into, sent within and exported from the EvaSys system is always transferred in encrypted form. You can find more details under data protection information.

  • Who can I talk to if I have further questions?
